Neurotoxin

A neurotoxin treatment is the most studied, most widely practiced injectable in modern aesthetics. Done well, it is also the most invisible. The intention is not a frozen face or a flat brow. It is the quiet softening of expression lines so that the face still moves, still feels like itself, only rested.

At Simply Me, neurotoxin is precision work. Conservative dosing, small increments, and a clinical eye on how a face actually behaves in conversation. We would rather see you twice for a careful refinement than once for a result you have to manage.

How it works

Neurotoxins are purified proteins that temporarily interrupt the chemical signal between nerve and muscle. When that signal pauses, the small muscles responsible for repetitive expressions — the furrow between the brows, the horizontal lines across the forehead, the fan of lines at the outer eye — stop pulling on the overlying skin. The skin, no longer being folded thousands of times a day, has a chance to smooth.

The effect is gradual. Most patients notice softening within three to five days, with full effect around the two-week mark. The neurotoxin is metabolized over the following months. It does not accumulate.

Because the mechanism is muscular rather than dermal, neurotoxin works on dynamic lines — the ones visible when you move. Lines etched into the skin at rest may soften but rarely disappear with neurotoxin alone, which is why pairing with resurfacing or filler is sometimes part of a longer plan.

Formulations

Four FDA-approved neurotoxins are available in our practice (Botox®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®). The active molecule is similar across all four; the differences are in onset, duration, diffusion, and the protein complex around the toxin. The right choice is rarely a question of which is “best.” It is which suits your anatomy, your timing, and your history with prior treatment.

What to expect

A neurotoxin appointment is short, usually under thirty minutes. We begin with a brief consultation: a look at how your face moves, a discussion of the areas that bother you, and a dosing plan calibrated to your anatomy rather than a template.

The injections take only a few minutes. You will feel small pinches; most patients describe them as briefer and less sharp than expected. No anesthesia is needed. Tiny pinpoint marks may be visible immediately after and fade within an hour.

You can return to most activities right away. Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and lying flat for the rest of the day, and skip facials or facedown massage for twenty-four hours.

Who it’s right for

  • Adults bothered by dynamic lines at the forehead, between the brows, or at the outer eyes
  • Patients seeking preventive softening of expression patterns
  • Those interested in subtle brow lift, jaw slimming, or neck band softening (off-label uses discussed in consultation)
  • Patients planning a longer aesthetic strategy who want a low-commitment starting point

Neurotoxin is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for patients with certain neuromuscular conditions, or for anyone with a known sensitivity to the formulation. Medical history is reviewed at every visit.

After care

  1. Stay upright for four hours after treatment.
  2. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot yoga for the rest of the day.
  3. Skip facials, microneedling, and facedown massage for twenty-four hours.
  4. Do not rub or massage the treated areas.
  5. Expect onset at three to five days; full result around two weeks.
  6. Plan maintenance every three to four months on average.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a neurotoxin cost?

Pricing is determined by units used rather than by area, which is the most honest way to bill for an injectable that is dosed individually. We quote a range during consultation based on the muscle activity we observe.

How long does my neurotoxin last?

Three to four months for most patients with Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport, and Xeomin. With repeat treatment, intervals often lengthen.

Is there any downtime?

Practically none. Most patients return to work or social plans the same day. Small bumps from the injections resolve within an hour. Rare bruising can be covered with makeup.

Will my face look frozen?

Not when dosed conservatively. The goal at Simply Me is preserved expression with softened lines. If you have had a heavy result elsewhere, we are happy to take a more minimal approach.

How is neurotoxin different from filler?

Neurotoxin relaxes muscles to soften lines from movement. Filler restores volume or shapes contour. They address different problems and are often used together, sequenced thoughtfully.

Can I start in my late twenties or thirties?

Many patients begin earlier specifically to slow the etching of lines into the skin. There is no universal age. The right time is when expression lines bother you at rest.

Who performs the injections?

All injections at Simply Me are performed by licensed medical providers.

Often paired with

  • Dermaplaning

Manual exfoliation and vellus hair removal — a flawless makeup canvas.
